About Me:
I'm a neurophysiologist by profession at the University of Iowa (Iowa City, Iowa). I am in the process of re-building and upgrading my 16-inch cylinder-type planetarium projector that has a star field equivalent to Norton's Star Atlas. I have a strong desire to find a home for this projector, preferably as part of a school district or community-based science center (i.e., plenty of public access). I"m also interested in promoting basic science to young people and believe that many astronomical principles provide a good route for that. Ohn, and I'm married with one daughter.

A Life Goal associated with my star-projector effort.

Surprisingly to me, the Iowa City (IA) area, though the home a the University of Iowa, does not have a community based science center. Given the possible resources that a university could contribute to such an effort (i.e. near-retirement professor expertise, student help, a conglomeration of science-leaning individuals), I am saddened that my University's leaders has not seen it fit to push for such an obvious public outreach effort. Our university recently built a "sports hall of fame" building that is somewhat of an albatross. How wonderful it would be if I could be a part of an effort to help the University play a real community role in demonstrtating the value of learning and discovery. Alas, universities nowadays hew too close to the "corporate model" of promoting profitable ventures that aren't necessarily high-minded. My gosh, my university was the home of Dr. James van Allen and some trend setting biomedical advances. Yet, the University, I think, fails to meet its role as a public promoter of science and interest in the scientific method.

If there are others in the eastern Iowa area with an interest in promoting a community based science center (possibly in conjunction with the U. of Iowa), I would love hearing from them.

Looking for good deal on Spitz A3P (or perhaps 512 or later)

Greetings. I am leading a community effort to establish a planetarium in my rather small community (60k) that is home to the University of Iowa. There is interest in a facility and I am someone willing to do some work toward an interim planetarium as a demo facility. I would make the dome myself and have engineering and machining experience to assist in maintainance / improvement of equipment.

I would like to ask all within "earshot" to perhaps help me locate a source of a working Spitz A3P pro… Continue

Looking for Spitz A3P Parts

I am in the processing of rebuilding an entire Spitz A3P "planet" portion (I have a star projector that I will mate to this). While I have the 6 planet analogs, I have little else.

I am hoping that someone might be willing to part with (or sell at a REASONABLE price) any of the following. My goal is to donate this to a community science center, which is being pushed by me and a few others in my community. I am bearing all costs right now, so cannot afford big mark-ups.

Here is my "wish list" f… Continue

Charles,
Thanks for your email. My intent isn't to put you on a mass mailing list or sell your email to someone else. I just want to send you my brochure so you have an idea of what my business is all about. Currently I am looking for sponsors in my area to help fund some of my programs and also I want to partner with our local Astronomical association so I could apply for grant money. I am working on a web site which will also have a page of items I will sell, but you are under no obligation to purchase anything. I will send you my brochure as a attachment either today or tomorrow.
