Yeh, ive used Creative Cow too. I produced a show recently, where I used some of the tutorials to help me make fulldome animations from scratch, suchs as radiowaves flying from the earth and the sun dying. For full dome, you can either use the plugin or just create a circular mask to mimic the dome itself.

Some other good places are:

Drew, would anyone from your staff being interested/willing to do an After Effects workshop for us here in Casper? If that sounds entertaining let us know and maybe we can arrange something.

All two (soon to be three) of our in house fulldome productions have been (almost) exclusively done in AE. I'm using the E&S Virtual Projector plugin. I've figured out a few tricks for making it a little more flexible - if anyone's interested I'll share :)

Nice tip Rod, but I use http://ae.tutsplus.com/ and they also have some great tutorials in AE.

Who uses AE for Dome content? What do you use? A fulldome plugin, or just a camera set?

Seconded, Rod. I've learned a lot from the Cow's AE podcasts. For some more advanced tutorials, check out videocopilot.net. Amazing stuff there.

For those folks new to AE or new to using AE for planetarium production, there is a great video podcast that has helped us a LOT in our endeavors. The Podcast is called Creative Cow. They have several but their video AE tutorials are amazing. I think a Google or Bing search will turn it up easily.

Hi everyone, looking forward vto start some topics here! I am an After Effects user, and I am producing content for our digital planetarium. I have only just started but AAE is proving to have LOTS of potential:)

CC Sphere is just a total life saver for us dome-heads. One of these days I want to play with the math and see if it can be improved for fulldome use - realistic rotation and shadowing for a planetary flyby, without too much trial and error, for instance. In my infinite free time, of course :)

After Effects is REALLY good at doing stars too. Simply create a solid with of whatever color you want the star to be, apply CC Sphere effect then apply the Glow effect and play around with the parameters. You can get some pretty convincing results this way. We also copied a picture of a sunspot, scaled it down and layered it over the top of the solid, it looked pretty convincing.!

Good Luck!

Just started using After Effects for traditional video in planetarium. Created a couple of rotating planets, and a sci-fi one that blows up using shatter effect.
