Teaching People to Dream

I just got an interesting phone call. The caller and his wife were told last night that they are about to have triplets. As they were leaving the medical offices, the first thing they saw was the evening sky with the moon, Venus, and Jupiter. As a memento, the guy is looking for an astrophoto showing those objects in the sky at about 5:42 PM CST (23:42 UT) on November 5, 2008. Did anyone happen to make such an image anywhere close to that time that I could give to the couple? Thanks for any help!

You might try recreating the scene in the planetarium, and then photographing it.
Just a thought.....

Dave,
Similar views of the Moon, Venus and Jupiter were posted on SpaceWeather.com Check the archives for November 3rd and 4th. I didn't see one exactly for November 5th though.

Many astrophotographers post their pics on the Bad Astronomy/Universe Today Forum. A quick search didn't bring up what you are looking for, but if you put a request there, someone might be able to help you!

Thanks to each of you. Those are some interesting ideas, and I'm sure I can find something that will help the guy.

Dave,

Theo Wellington, our fantastic female educator, took such an image. Remind me to send u one when I am at work. Or u can ask her directly at tmwellington@comcast.net. She even photoshopped the real thing with the recreation in our dome earlier that day. As Drew likes to say, hey, the sky got it right.

Wow, wish I'd caught this when you originally posted it. If they're still looking for something and they're not sticklers for the date, you're more than welcome to pass along this image that I took on Dec. 1: http://flickr.com/photos/smailtronic/3078079060

Mike:

Thanks -- nice picture! I was able to help them back in November, though, and no longer have their contact information. They were interested in a particular date, which was the challenging part.
