This is a very powerful platform with many ways to structure things. We can have discussion categories, like the ones here on the forums and/or groups, like the Dome-L Off-list group. Each has benefits and drawbacks. I am leaning toward moving all discussions into groups so that permissions can be more tightly controlled. There might be a couple of active forum threads, like this one for site suggestions, but a group format would allow more flexibility.
Interesting that you should mention this. I was just thinking about the best way to approach the job posting issue. I had planned this but I am thinking about whether it needs its own group or simply a forum category. My thought was to have a group called "Career Center" or something like that. It could have more than postings and could include advice or questions on a wide range of astronomy/space careers.
Here's a desire if it's possible. Could we have a page devoted to links of news articles that users submit? I'm thinking of something like a Propeller page. We could post cool news links, like anytime the Messenger site is updated or if the black hole created in the LHC eats a politician, and then comment on them.
Don't know if this is feasible or if someone might just create a Propeller group and then we link to there, but I know I'd read through it every other day.
This is a great idea. I have thought about this from a couple of perspectives. A forum topic would be easy but less flexible. An astronomy news group might be the way to go. One big advantage would be the ability to have both a discussion forum for posting within the group and an RSS reader. I would love to see someone with some time to put together a Yahoo Pipe of many different space/astronomy news RSS sources. I have NASA breaking news on the front page but something more comprehensive inside a news group would be great.
You have the ability to start a group, if you would like to start Space/Astro news, I would be open to that :)
